On this page i will give you a step by step rundown of how to assemble your clarinet if you do not already know how to do so. Also you will find several diagrams, and a professional video of how to set up your clarinet, if you cannot figure it out with my instructions.

Step One: First before you even open your case make sure that it is facing right side up. This can usually confirmed if the company logo is facing up. If there is no company logo check that the latches to the case need to be lifted up and not pulled down. This will make sure that when you open it up, the clarinet does not fall out.

Step Two: Open up the case. If you're a new player you can examine all of the parts and familiarize yourself with them.

Step Three: Pick up the piece called the barrel and the upper joint. While firmly holding the upper joint, gently twist the barrel on.

Step Four: Now that you have the barrel and the upper joint together it's time to add the lower joint. Pick up the lower joint and hold it firmly in one hand and the rest of the clarinet in the other. As you can see in the image, she has her thumb placed on the last key. This lifts a part called the bridge, which fits over top another piece.

Now that you have attached the lower joint it is time to attach the bell. So again firmly hold the rest of the clarinet in one hand and then gently twist the bell on.

Now, if you wish to do so you can sterilize the mouth piece. Then once you have done that twist it on gently at the top of the clarinet. It is hard to tell in the below picture, but you want the opening on the mouth piece to be aligned with the oval shaped key on the back of your clarinet. You can now remove your reed from its case, and moisten it in your mouth. Now when you do so take care not to chip your reed as that will cause a 'squealing' sound when you go to play. When you position your reed you want it to be nice and straight, and covering the opening on the mouth piece. You do not want your mouth piece to be askew as shown in the centre image.

You are now ready to play your clarinet. To play raise the clarinet up towards your mouth at a 45° angle from your body. In the below photo you can see where the reed meets the mouth piece. You want to gently place the clarinet into your mouth just until that spot. Now if you wish you can 'role' your lower lip or leave it the way you want, depending on personal preference. The way you hold your mouth on the clarinet mouth piece is called your embouchure. You can now blow a steady stream of air through the clarinet. If you do not get any sound, try to loosen or tighten your embouchure. If you still get no sound make sure that you have your mouth piece in your mouth far enough- but not too far. Also if you do no have a strong enough stream of air going through, then that could be why you are producing no sound.
Below you will find two videos. The top video is a professional video explaining who assemble your clarinet. The second video will better explain how to form your embouchure.
